A technophile's dream

What began with a client’s desire to access his 1000 CD collection from any location in his new duplex loft morphed into a state-of-the-art technophile’s dream -- an elegant home defined equally by high design and cutting-edge technology. When Enhanced Home came on board, they were charged with integrating all audio and visual aspects into the retrofitted, architecturally stunning loft in lower Manhattan. Despite the challenges inherent in urban installations, such as limited space for running wires and hiding control boxes, Enhanced Home focused on the loft’s potential and partnered with the homeowner and architect to create a high functioning, easy to use technological wonder home.

A technophile's dream

Because home technology evolves so quickly, the owners of Enhanced Home continually install the latest equipment in their homes, live with it and are able to demo and recommend the best options to their customers. Giving this client hands-on experience with the proposed systems educated and exposed him to ideas he hadn’t considered.

A technophile's dream

Inspired by the Asian-themed interior, exemplified most strikingly by an etched glass floating staircase that connected the two floors, Enhanced Home integrated the home theater system in the center of the main floor with its retractable “floating” walls. Working with the space’s challenges, Enhanced Home’s hid control panels in the master bedroom’s headboard and employed wireless solutions wherever possible. By both respecting the lines of the design and expanding the original vision, Enhanced Home engineered a highly advanced, yet easy-to-use, centralized system that incorporated the audio, visual, lighting, motorized shades and alarm system. Using a “hub and spoke” approach, a feature-rich main control panel was leveraged with several other smaller auxiliary panels in various locations to manage the experience from several touch points. And while music distribution was dispersed throughout every area of the loft, certain areas given special treatment for an optimal listening experience.

A technophile's dream

The collaboration with the architects and homeowner resulted in a stunning duplex replete with the latest "technomenities", highlighting architecturally significant sound equipment, and widening the scope of client's original expectations.

The site for many of Enhanced Home's industry innovations, this unique residence is one of the most comprehensive installations that the company has engineered and managed. Enhanced Home created specific applications that gave the homeowner the opportunity to not only enjoy a technologically advanced home, but also to manage it with ease.

Bought as a spec house, the property's infrastructure was essentially a blank slate when Enhanced Home began the design process. Working closely with the technologically savvy homeowner, the primary objectives were installing the most advanced, highest quality equipment available, placing all electronic componentry on control touch panels in various locations throughout the property, creating personalized experiences for each user, safety and security.

This uber-connected home is defined by whole-house audio, video and security camera distribution, centralized lighting, controllable thermostats and motorized window shades. In order to protect the electronic nerve center and its residents, Enhanced Home also installed several types of advanced sensors. All viewable from DVRs inside the house (which allows for viewing real time or recorded footage), the garage door and entry gates were equipped with sensors that alerted the homeowners if they were tripped. Protecting the heavy investment in the equipment, "water bugs" were installed in the key areas in the home which provide immediate notification both to the homeowner and Enhanced Home should water ever threaten the equipment.

To address the common dilemma of clients feeling the need choose between a media room and home theater, Enhanced Home came up with an ingenious solution of defining distinct areas through lighting and equipment placement. The requirements were simple: great audio, top-of-the-line video and simplicity of control. Unobtrusively integrating state-of-the-art equipment with advanced programming to highlight different aspects of the room’s offerings resulted in a screening room, elaborate gaming center, poker room and bar -- a great place for the whole family to gather.

A constantly evolving project, the latest futuristic component to be installed was water temperature controls in the master bath. A control panel regulates the multiple showerheads and temperature settings for each user, so in the morning, all one has to do is press their name on the panel and the bathing experience is custom engineered to their specifications. This flagship home is truly the pinnacle of the possibilities in advanced home management.
